How Do I Assign a Department to a Company?
You can assign an existing department when you are creating a new company.
You also have the option to assign departments to an existing company using the 'Companies' module and the 'Departments' module.
To assign an existing department to a new company:
- On the left menu, click ‘Companies'.
- Click ‘New Company'.
- Enter the name, abbreviation, contact name, email, address and phone number into the text boxes.
- Select 'Departments'.
- You can also add Locations, Countries and Regions from the dropdown options (you can select multiple).
- Click ‘Save & Submit’.
- A field with a red asterisk beside it means it is required and you will not be able to complete your work without filling in these fields.
- A field without a red asterisk beside it means the field is not required, although it may be helpful to fill these out to complete your work.
This is required before you can add a department:
- If you are missing the Department you would like to add you can create it using the link below the 'Departments' field in the company setup screen: 'You can add more departments from here'.
- Be cautious that when you click this button, you will be taken to the 'Departments' module and the details you have entered will be lost.
If you also want to add Locations, Countries and Regions:
- Set up Locations.
- Set up Countries.
- Set up Regions.
To assign departments to existing companies in the ‘Companies’ module:
- On the left column, go to 'Companies'.
- Click on the company you want to assign the department to.
- Under the ‘Departments’ heading, select the department(s) you want to add from the dropdown options (you can select multiple).
- Click ‘Save Changes'.
- The department(s) you have selected will now be added to the company.
To assign existing companies to a department in the ‘Departments’ module:
- On the left column, go to 'Departments'.
- Click on the department you want to assign companies to.
- Scroll down to the 'Companies' section.
- Click 'Allocate/Deallocate Companies’.
- Two sections will show ‘Select to Add’ and ‘Select to Remove’ with a list of companies, tick the box(es) you wish to add/remove.
- You also have the option to select all, click on the blue tick at the top of the page.
- To deselect all, click on the red ‘X’ at the top of the page.
- Click the arrow button.
- Click 'Close'.
- The companies you have selected will now be added to the department.
